Roommates, if you’ve been keeping track, then you’re well aware that currently the United States is in the middle of an unprecedented swarm of cicadas—and their latest victim is none other than President Joe Biden. While boarding Air Force One for his first official trip overseas since taking office, President Joe Biden was attacked by cicadas, but he handled the situation with humor that quickly made the video go viral on social media.
Throughout the last few weeks various areas of the U.S. have been swarmed by billions of cicadas, causing a flurry of disruption to daily tasks, interrupting activities and even being the source of a few traffic accidents. This means that not even President Joe Biden and his official aircraft, Air Force One, are immune to the nuisance of the noisy, invading bugs.
As President Bide and several journalists were set to takeoff on his very trip to Europe since becoming president, they were stalled and had to exit due to the swarms of cicadas. Additionally, when Biden exited the plane, a huge cicada landed on his neck—and he promptly swatted it away without losing his since of humor.
Walking up to reporters, he warned, “watch out for the cicadas, I just got one, it got me,” with an accompanying smile.
The current invasion of the cicadas is reportedly due to the Brood X emergence, that is said to occur once every 17 years, with Washington, D.C. being the most impacted area of the large bugs.
