Amazon CEO Announces The Company Will No Longer Screen Employees For Marijuana Use – The Shade Room

Amazon CEO Dave Clark recently announced the company will be making some major changes to its policies in an effort to become “Earth’s best employer and Earth’s safest place to work”. One of the biggest adjustments will be made to the company’s drug testing policy.

According to a blog post on the company’s website, Amazon is making a move to no longer test employees for marijuana use for any position that does not require staff to operate a vehicle. The company also announced that it will be supporting The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act of 2021, which aims to legalize marijuana, expunge criminal records and invest money into impacted communities.

“We will no longer include marijuana in our comprehensive drug screening program for any positions not regulated by the Department of Transportation, and will instead treat it the same as alcohol use,” the company announced. “We will continue to do impairment checks on the job and will test for all drugs and alcohol after any incident.”

CEO Clark also called for other employers to join Amazon in support of the MORE Act, in hopes that the law will be passed sooner than later.

“And because we know that this issue is bigger than Amazon, our public policy team will be actively supporting The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act of 2021 (MORE Act)—federal legislation that would legalize marijuana at the federal level, expunge criminal records, and invest in impacted communities. We hope that other employers will join us, and that policymakers will act swiftly to pass this law.”

Amazon has been showing itself to be one of the most progressive companies to date, creating its own lane for employees to have a safe work environment. As we previously reported, the company announced it would be manufacturing its very own coronavirus testing kits for employees.
